As the Sun began to set we moved out onto the fishing pier.. saw a little cat fish or what looks like a cat fish.. and the kites were now down on the water..

GPS Locators

We were able to get a bit closer to 2 birds browsing on a small inland pond, its easy to see each bird has been banded and set up with a tracking device..these man made objects on the legs of the birds did not seem to interfere with anything they were doing.. but it was very obvious every Whooping crane is known and accounted for..

Whooping Cranes

February 5, 2014  |  Birds  |  Comments Off on Whooping Cranes

One of the most endangered species on the planet, Texas has only 230 or so nesting pairs, and I think the entire world population is down to around 600 birds. Jen and I took a skimmer boat tour up into the Aransas national wildlife refuge to see some of these magnificent birds..

The three below, 2 adults and a juvenile were the first we saw on the tour and we were pretty far away..100+ yards or more at least.. but what  a sight..
