A few more shots from Bentsen – Rio Grande St. Park.. some locals with a Catfish for dinner from the Rio Grande river..and what are probably local birds.. a Fly Catcher, Redwinged Black bird, Great Blue Heron and Great egret on a Reseca..
Traveling further south on our first day we drove west and S. of McAllen Texas. Bentsen- Rio Grand is on the border with Mexico. We got there late as the Park was closing and walked about half of the normal tram route that brings people around the park.
Edinburgh Wildlife refuge was our next stop on the trip..and our first World birding center stop. Edinburgh is located just north of McAllen Texas and poised at the gateway to the Rio Grande Valley.. or ” The Valley” as its known here in Texas. The Winds were still very challenging, but this small sheltered spot did give us some first views and jump started our species count..
Our first day of the Texas birding classic was difficult to say the least. 40MPH winds from the north made for a blustery day that we kicked off at Choke Canyon St. park..
We did see a few birds.. but it was mostly keep warm and sheltered!
We have been very active Birding over the last few weeks…. One spot in Austin is the Montopolis bridge..an old Iron structure crossing the colorado river..here we see a night heron and from Hornsby bend..some Norther shovelers…
With the Weather being so nice, we have been making a lot of trips to Decker Lake..
The Pups love it..
Chris did the Eletric Run 5k…10,000 people showed up in light up costumes to run and have fun at the Travis county Expo center.. it was NUTTY!
Where the Homestead trail crosses onion creek is a great spot.. lots of exposed and eroded lime stone and a waterfall.. lots of folks hang out and wade…its a good spot!
