Traveling further south on our first day we drove west and S. of McAllen Texas. Bentsen- Rio Grand is on the border with Mexico. We got there late as the Park was closing and walked about half of the normal tram route that brings people around the park.

Edinburgh Wildlife Refuge

April 26, 2013  |  Birds  |  Comments Off on Edinburgh Wildlife Refuge

Edinburgh Wildlife refuge was our next stop on the trip..and our first World birding center stop. Edinburgh is located just north of McAllen Texas and poised at the gateway to the Rio Grande Valley.. or ” The Valley” as its known here in Texas. ┬áThe Winds were still very challenging, but this small sheltered spot did give us some first views and jump started our species count..

Tough Day at Choke Canyon

April 25, 2013  |  Birds  |  Comments Off on Tough Day at Choke Canyon

Our first day of the Texas birding classic was difficult to say the least. 40MPH winds from the north made for a blustery day that we kicked off at Choke Canyon St. park..

We did see a few birds.. but it was mostly keep warm and sheltered!
