Laguna Atascosa is a massive National Wildlife refuge on the mainland side of S. Padre Island. It borders the Laguna Madre on the Gulf of mexico and is home to more than 400 species of birds.
We took one last look around on the beautiful S. padre Island… we will be back..we have this awesome spot about 5.5 hours from the house..
From the Sheepshead park on the Laguna Madre side of the Island, we made our way out to the tip of the island, and one of the more famous beaches in the world known for its racous spring breaks and or course.. birds!
We saw these Great sparrows, and walking up and down the street nears Sheepshead we saw, Rose breasted Grosbeak, Orioles, Yellow headed black bird, and a Pelican.
We awoke the next morning to wonderful weather and a trip to a small park that was full of Birds.. Sheepshead!
We finally wound up day 2 of the Birding classic at S. Padre Island.. it was time for some sea food and a little rest.. as we walked out of the convention center area we saw the great blue heron bringing back materials for his nest.. and the humming birds as always were active and feeding!
