We Drove N. of Corpus Christie TX to Rockport Texas.. we observed the big rookery they have there and spent some time on the public beach which has some great birding..
On Mustang Island or otherwise known as Port Aransas next to Paradise pond is the water treatment facility..these always make great birding spots..and we saw some good ones..and a Nutria!
The USS Lexington anchored off the coast of Corpus Christie TX. The Grey Ghost as its known has a long and storied career and makes for one of the better living history museums I have ever visited..
We did not get over to the Lex on this trip, and I took these shots from across the bay.. but what a ship!
Located on the island at Port Aransas on the Texas coast. Paradise pond is a tiny but very productive Birding area.. it is situated in a place where tons of birds stop off for a rest, but its only about 2 football fields big with all the terrain..
These great blue Herons were on watch for anything coming close to their area..
2 shots here tell the story of a huge Tidal area that looks dry while we were here.. some of this is from drought and the fresh water meeting the salt water not being present..some is from the tide being out..
The Very Tip of Texas, Where Mexico and Texas meet at the mouth of the Rio Grande.. Not much is out here.. a couple of red necks driving on the sand dunes and us.. Birders having a look around.. This is Cool place to visit just for the remote feel of being out there!
There had been some serious onshore winds lately and the Seaweed was thick like a mattress on the beach
Looking like it just fell into a bucket of paint.. one of the prettiest birds of the trip..and we actually wound up see a lot of these..
Another stop along the Rio Grande river was Santa Ana National Wildlife refuge.. This is a much larger track of land and fun because it has some hiking to get back in by the ponds and the river..
Again right on the border of Mexico, was an old pump house that supported the irrigation in the Rio Grande Valley.. not only a great birding location, but also a very cool historical site..
