We spent a couple of days right on the Rio Grande, and we could see into Mexico.. Honestly I do NOT know what all the fuss is about Border security..There are Giant Lizards watching it for us..
At Quinta they had a returning Screech owl we got a good look at.. they are so camo its hard to get the camera to focus properly..
In McAllen Texas Quinta Mazatlan is a restored hacienda that is absolutely stunning.. there are well kept grounds and its part of the world birding center.. while we were there the director recognized Jen and Valeri and we got a personal tour which was highlighted by some of the amazing cactus blooms!
Spotted WhipTails.. common in Texas, these lizards can regrow their tail as it will detach so they can escape predators..Also..Jen Spotted the Common Pauraque Which was insane as this bird is deep in the woods and totally camouflaged and only comes out at night.. She rocks!
Some of the toughest birds to get a photo of are the warblers.. tiny song birds migrating through..They are in constant motion
These shots are from pretty early in the morning and over off the board walk at the world birding center in S. Padre Island..
We Just Wrapped up the 2015 Texas Birding classic! We will not know how we did for another month or so. We registered 222 species in 6 days and put 1700 miles on the car visiting as many ecosystems in Texas as we could.. We had several incredible days beginning with South Padre Island, where on opening day we saw 119 species.
Beautiful and deep blue.. what a great spot to just sit and stare..
I traveled back to California and had almost a full day before the conference, so I went North of San Francisco..
Marcia was so kind on my Big 5-0 and sent over a gift card. I bought a Game camera and put it out in the greenbelt behind our house just outside the fence.. Here are a few of the highlights..Most of the shots are on Jen’s computer, as she likes to download it all the time and beats me to it!
