Sabine Pass BattleGround

October 31, 2012  |  General  |  Comments Off on Sabine Pass BattleGround

on the way back from Sea Rim I took a right turn for a last stop on this grand adventure.. this took me out to where Texas meets Louisiana and the Sabine Pass..big battle here back for Texas independence.. and it since has been a strategic hub all the way through WWII.

Sea Rim St Park

Sea Rim is still a state park, but not much is there… Hurricane Ike pretty much wiped it off the map.. today some super structures are still visible, but there are no real facilities.. but a nice beach camping spot. The real sweetness is the remote nature of the park. It hides at the end of TX HWY 73 which no longer goes all the way through to the Bolivar peninsula. So to come here.. you have to really be going here.. no one just drives by..

The Bench made it..

Ruins of the office area?

a Rebuilt research station

Maybe an old dock? I wouldn’t swim in there.. to many Gators

The Rain continued for me and I traveled down the west side of the Creole Nature trail. I checked out the Sabine national wildlife refuge, but did not see to much due to the weather. Some unfixed hurricane damage..

Along the Beach

October 25, 2012  |  General, Outdoors  |  2 Comments

I was at a pretty remote beach area, with out your typical day visitors. Although on the weekend I imagine the folks from Cameron or Lake Charles might come out somewhere along here.. I drove along the beach for about 20 miles or so before hopping back up on a side road. Here some views of the beach.. and commercial fishing.. or Shrimping..

Industrial Gulf

After the Cameron Parish Wildlife refuge, I Made my way down to the Gulf Of Mexico. In these remote areas of SW Louisiana the Gulf is an Industrial place with Gravel beds, Gas imports and exports…it is a big contrast to the beauty of the refuge.

Bridges are the only way around in this giant swamp

The Edge of the refuge..a heron perches on the pipeline indicator

The Gulf is stirred up on a bit of a stormy day
