I Drove south of Lake Charles on a rainy day and Visited the Cameron Wild life refuge.. awesome place for birds. Generally its a large flat wet land for as far as the eye can see.. Here we see the visitors center and the start of a boardwalk hike about 2 miles so.. I added an area map at the bottom although its a very poor photo..

Around Lake Charles

I spotted a gator.. but not really in the wild.. I would find those for real later on in the Sabine and lacossine national wildlife refuges…this one was over near the convention and visitors bureau.. but fun to see and nice and safe..He was also well hidden. Other shots here are the Cypress swamp from Sam Houston Jordan.. and Lake Charles proper looking back at the big bridge.

He is tough to see.. but he is in there…

Deep in the cypress swamp and fighting the coastal rains.. SW Louisiana was a very beautiful place. Here seeing some of the Cypress and other water loving trees… somebody lost a lure..

I lost my Lure over there.. anyone want to walk into the swamp and get that back?

Warning signs

While I did not see anything that would be considered alarming at the Sam Houston Jordan park.. they certainly had the signs.. The rain picked up pretty good and I snapped a few pics of where the water opens up on the Bayou..

The Bayou opens up

I Imagine so…

Elk Swimming the River

Jen and I got super lucky here.. We watched a couple of Female Elk move across the river.. both had to swim and it was a little scary as the current was fast and it would turn the Elk as they were moving across. Both of the girls made it just fine..but what a sight.
