I had a few more shots from Buchanan that I liked.. so here you go.. a few random from around the lake…
We drove up to the dam to see if the water was still low.. we literally walked out on one side of the dam and shot these photos..great osprey there..
As we walked around the lake we saw a few common birds.. Sparrow and Titmouse Etc… I also included one more shot here to see the impact of the drought on the main lake.. and a shot of the hill country looking off towards Llano
Jen and I traveled out to Canyon of the Eagles, and Lake Buchanan, however the lake.. had fallen considerably.. and its here in the hill country NW of Austin you can really see the impact of the drought.. Remember.. NO Diving..
Jen and I went to Hornsby bend and looked around at sunset for some kingfishers…we did not see any kingfishers that night but we did see a lot of norther shoveler ducks..
Indianola..Indianola Texas a ghost town east of Port Lavaca that is.. we saw swarms of White fronted and snow geese, so many it almost seemed to blot out the sky… Black necked stilts and Avocets, and Ibis were also plentiful once we got back down near the ocean.
Industrialized and South of Houston lies Port Lavaca on the Gulf of Mexico. Its key to Oil refining and on the international shipping channel and also home to some pretty decent birding..On the day we stopped by we only saw some of the usual suspects, Herons and Egrets..and it was eerily calm and quiet..
We hiked a loop around Dagger point in the Aransas National Wildlife refuge…Beautiful views of San Antonio Bay on the Gulf of Mexico…
Here are some of the birds we saw just near the visitors center at the ANWR…sweet place..
Rockport had a wonderful Sunset that evening..Jen and I strolled on the beach and the Ocean was nearly still.. Happy Valentines day everyone!
