My Cousin Ritchie and his Wife Barb came down to Austin and we had a look around! Super fun!
After the big hike..I drove back down the shoreline for a ways and snapped a few more shots before heading back over the coastal mountains to San Francisco
On the shore of the Pacific ocean, a heard of Tule Elk at Point Reyes.. this was a bizarre and beautiful sight! I hiked in about 3 miles to the most remote part of the preserve to see these guys roaming free..
That about wraps up the birding classic, but I have a few more shots from a beautiful day at Point Reyes..
Jen and I knew that a great horned owl hung out at the Ladybird Johnson Wildflower center so we drove over to get a photo, we also knew there had been wood ducks spotted at Mayfield preserve, so on the last day of the classic we drove around picking up some one offs.. great fun!
We Birded at Pedernales Falls and Hornsby Bend on the last day of the Classic..great spots close to home..
We saw flocks of hundreds and hundreds of American Avocets.. they came streaking by the shoreline..
Hugging the coast of the Gulf of Mexico and running about 70 miles or so is a spit of sand called the Bolivar Peninsula, wiped out by hurricanes every once in a while, man keep rebuilding..probably because the beaches are wonderful and endless, birds are everywhere..cool ships drift pass as they head to the busy port of Houston..
